West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust Heritage Careers air

Friday 8th March 2024

Black Country Living Museum

Globella were approached by the West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust as they were running out of time to deliver their goal to hold the first Heritage Careers Fair in the district.

The Heritage Careers Fair was created for all who may be interested in careers across the heritage industry. Exhibitors exhibited throughout the day that covered a variety of career pathways from conservation to education, archaeology to historic building management, architecture to digital officers, archival work and many more. A talks programme was organised and delivered as well as demonstrations throughout the event.

The event was the perfect opportunity for people to ask questions about volunteering, career pathways, experiences, and for advice to find out if a career in the heritage sector would suit them.

The event was attended by several schools that were reached out to as well as people with an interest in heritage, professional organisations  looking to network and volunteers.

A range of organisations were approached to exhibit by Globella, and our exhibitors on the day included:

English Heritage

IWSA

Messenger BCR

Squeaky Pedal

The National Trust

Royal Air Force Museum East Midlands

Worcestershire Council

Sudbury Gasworks Restoration Trust

Heritage Trust Network

Birmingham City University

National Brownfield Institute

Dudley Council

WLVArchitecture (Architecture Department), School of Architecture and the Built Environment from the University of Wolverhampton

and our sponsors for the event Rodney Melville & Partners

Demonstrations included stonemasonry, clay modelling, lime plastering and a heritage ironsmith.

About The Project

Globella were brought on board to work with the West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust due to them running out of time to deliver a Careers Fair for the district.

Talks Programme

Working with our contacts and the West Midlands Historic Buildings Trust we created and delivered a fascinating and insightful talks programme throughout the day which received some great feedback from delegates.

''Hannah worked with us organising a heritage careers event hosted at the Black Country Living Museum. We had some tight timescales and very complex requirements, not least the limited resources of our own staff to support her. She pulled together a fantastic day with an exciting range of exhibitors for delegates to interact with – feedback was unanimously positive. Throughout the whole process Hannah was a joy to work with; professional, responsive, calm, and well organised.
We could not have done it without her – thanks so much!''
